Big Nature launch in Brighton

Brighton and Hove's "Big Nature" was launched at the Jubilee Library in Brighton on Thursday 21 January. "Big Nature" a biodiversity partnership of seven local conservation organisations have come together to promote International Year of Biodiversity, during 2010.

A competition to design a logo for the Big Nature partnership was won by Carlton Hill Primary School pupil Mia Falcon (aged 5). The Mayor Ann Norman presented her with a prize. Cllr. Norman said: "We have a wealth of wildlife on our doorstep here in Brighton & Hove and Big Nature will encourage people to find out more about it and take part in nature conservation. "

The Big Nature Treasure Hunt was also launched at the same time to encourage people to visit a variety of urban natural areas to collect clues for a prize of a meal for two at the award winning Terre a Terre vegetarian restaurant.

Her winning bumblebee design will be used to brand all Big Nature events. It was chosen to highlight the plight of bees. Big Nature is also planning to run a Bee Aware campaign to encourage people to grow bee-friendly plants.
